Do you use rated bronchoscopy to diagnose a foreign body aspiration? Hi, I'm Cecilia Higena from Cincinnati Children's Hospital and I think this is an article that you should know about. This is a systematic review and meta-analysis done in Canada and they wanted to assess the diagnostic accuracy of CT for diagnosing foreign body aspirations. And what did they find? They included 16 manuscripts and they found that 2,056 patients that underwent CT scan for the diagnosis of foreign body aspiration. The sensitivity for this was 98.8% and the specificity was 96.6. So, it seems that CT is very accurate for the diagnosis of foreign body aspirations that could lead to avoid unnecessary rigid bronchoscopy.
