What the experts said
The study was a retrospective study conducted in Connecticut evaluating reduction in time between chest radiograph and button battery removal from the esophagus before and after implementing a clinical algorithm.
The study included 13 patients total: 6 before algorithm implementation and 7 after implementation.
Time between chest radiograph and button battery extraction from the esophagus was reduced from 73 minutes to 35 minutes after algorithm implementation.
Having a clinical algorithm in the hospital for button battery ingestion management appears necessary based on these results.
