What the experts said
The study was a preclinical study conducted at Boston Children's Hospital together with Harvard Medical School
The study objective was to determine if mesenchymal stem cell therapy via amniotic fluid could reduce brain inflammation in patients with intrauterine growth restriction
Researchers created a rat model of intrauterine growth restriction and divided subjects into four groups
Group 1 received no treatment, Group 2 received only saline solution, Group 3 received MSC therapy via amniotic fluid, and Group 4 received MSC therapy with a primer before the mesenchymal cells
Untreated patients and those who received only saline solution had significantly lower brain weight
Patients treated with mesenchymal stem cell therapy via amniotic fluid had greater brain weight
Patients who received MSC therapy via amniotic fluid with a primer had significantly less expression of interleukin-beta and TNF-alpha in the brain
Reduced expression of interleukin-beta and TNF-alpha indicates less brain inflammation
