This study investigates sleep disturbances in adolescent surgical patients, particularly examining the relationship between prescription opioid use for postoperative pain control and sleep quality. The research addresses a gap in understanding how opioid-related sleep disruption may impact recovery in this age group.

  • Sleep is critical for postoperative recovery in adolescent surgical patients.
  • Prescription opioids can disrupt normal sleep patterns during post-surgical recovery.
  • Limited research exists on adolescent sleep quality when using opioids for postoperative pain management.
  • Identifying risk factors for disordered sleep in adolescent surgical patients is an important research gap.
