In brief
This experimental study investigates local growth hormone application as a potential protective therapy in testicular torsion-detorsion injury using a rat model. The research focuses on whether GH can mitigate oxidative stress damage and preserve germ cell architecture following ischemia-reperfusion, addressing a critical gap in pediatric urological emergencies.
- Testicular torsion is a pediatric surgical emergency where delayed treatment causes irreversible ischemic damage to testicular tissue.
- Oxidative stress is a primary mechanism of testicular injury during torsion-detorsion events.
- Local growth hormone (GH) application shows potential as an adjunctive therapy to preserve testicular morphology after detorsion.
- Animal models demonstrate that targeted growth factor therapy may mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury in testicular torsion cases.

Testicular torsion is a surgical emergency in paediatric population, in which delayed intervention often leads to irreversible ischaemic injury. Oxidative stress plays a key role in testicular damage. Although several experimental therapies have been explored, the effect of local growth hormone (GH) application needs to be further defined. This study evaluated the impact of local GH on testicular morphology and oxidative stress parameters following torsion–detorsion in a rat model.
